Peter Dros

Peter is the MD of the company and first started his career as a ranger and manager at MalaMala in 1995. His interest in wildlife and the outdoors was instilled in him from a young age being the son of a cattle farmer in the northern part of South Africa.

After his schooling in Pretoria his family relocated to the Southern Cape where he completed his National Diploma (with distinction) in Nature Conservation at the Port Elizabeth Technicon, Saasveld Campus near George. This diploma required a year of practical training which he did in the Timbavati Game Reserve further nurturing his fascination with the animals and ecology of the bushveld.

Once he completed his diploma he soon secured a position with the world-renowned MalaMala Game Reserve. Peter quickly moved up the ranks and shortly after he started he was made manager of Harry’s Camp in 1996. During the following 8 years he was also appointed as the Assistant senior ranger, and manager of Kirkman’s Kamp after it was renovated in 1999. In 2003 Peter left MalaMala for just over 12 months and returned regularly on an ad hoc basis. It was then that Mr Rattray offered him the position as the manger of the newly built Rattray’s on MalaMala. Peter managed this camp for a year before accepting the position of Sales and Marketing Manger for MalaMala and Mashatu Game Reserves.

Two years later Peter broadened his horizons and joined the global travel company Abercrombie & Kent as Sales and Marketing Director for their lodges and camps portfolio under the Sanctuary Retreats brand. The primary challenge facing Peter and his team was the development of the Sanctuary brand with its newly launched Zambia portfolio. Harnessing his skills as a competent leader Peter applied an innovative and creative approach building relationships with the local and international trade partners. Underscoring this Peter laid a solid platform of sales and marketing strategies to increase occupancies and revenue.

With skills ranging from operational lodge experience and management to execution of boardroom strategies Peter has a wide range of business acumen to offer any travel or tourism company.
